Care workers from overseas in South Gloucestershire

South Gloucestershire has always played its part in helping to support people who have come to this country, and we are proud to be able to help our international care workers. Because this is such a great place to live, work and visit, we know that our residents and communities will hold out the hand of friendship and welcome you, as do all South Gloucestershire Council councillors and officers.

As part of the BNSSG International Recruitment project, Proud to care have created resources to help with orientation to the UK, as well as English language learning sessions.  Access to drop in sessions are also available that give guidance, signposting and additional support within South Gloucestershire.

How can I improve my English language skills?

As part of the BNSSG International Recruitment project Proud to Care identified many overseas workers were unable to access English Language courses due to course VISA requirements. In light of this, South Gloucestershire Council are providing free ESOL licences to social care workers from overseas via the Flash Academy English Learning App.

Users will be provided with a free 6 month licence to the Flash Academy App which can be downloaded on to any device and is available in 48 languages. The App includes a large range of self-learning modules which help to support both language learning and orientation to the UK.

To register for a free ESOL licence, please email proudtocare@southlglos.gov.uk

How can I access support and advice on available services within South Gloucestershire?

The community hubs are run by our partners to help support the community with information, advice and resources. There are five hubs within South Gloucestershire located at Thornbury, Yate, Stoke Gifford, Emersons Green and Kingswood.
